What Should Your Blood Pressure Be According To Your Age?

Regulating your blood pressure can become a good quality if you are still able to do so, as when you grow older, it can be rather harmful and sometimes impossible. This was confirmed in a research in which 2,000 seniors took part. The results from the research which were published online in the Archives of Internal Medicine in fact surprised the world.
When we talk about high blood pressure, we should first let you know that hypertension is a real life threat. There is no room for mistakes when it comes to hypertension as it has an impact on the function of your arteries, kidneys, and the body in general. It can lead to heart failure, heart attack, kidney failure, stroke, and other pretty dangerous health problems. That is why doctors prescribe aggressive therapies for treating hypertension.

As it is the case with other health conditions, an exacting method cannot be used for everyone. The treatments for fifty-year-old men and eighty-year-old men differ because the therapy for the first group of patients does not correspond to the one that is suitable for the second group.
How is hypertension diagnosed?
The healthcare contributors need an exact picture of the blood pressure of the patient and a reminder how things have changed and developed over time. The age of twenty is the initial age for the entire process. According to the American Heart Association, young people should also screen their blood pressure at the regular healthcare visits, at least once in every two years.
This applies especially to youngsters whose blood pressure is below 120/80 mm Hg.
When the heart rests, which is the interlude between the beats, the blood pressure drops, and when your heart beats, the blood pressure rises. This means that the blood pressure varies every minute, depending on the posture, the stress level, the sleep, and the physical activity. For adults that are aged twenty and more, the normal blood pressure is less than 120/80 mm Hg, which is less than 120 systolic and less than 80 diastolic. Unluckily, a third of the adults in the USA suffer from blood pressure.
If the patient’s blood pressure is raised compared to its normal values, doctors make more readings over time. Sometimes, they suggest that the patients monitor and observe their blood pressure at home, before being diagnosed with high blood pressure.
If your blood pressure has peaked once, it does not mean that you suffer from high blood pressure. However, if it remains higher than 140/90 mm Hg, which is systolic 140 or more and diastolic 90 or more, you will need to start off a treatment program.
The treatment program consists of changes in the diet and in your lifestyle, and sometimes even involves prescription drugs for people who have high blood pressure, higher than 140/90.
If a patient’s systolic value is 180 mm Hg or more and their diastolic value is 110 mm Hg or more, they should rest for several minutes and check their blood pressure again. If nothing has changed, they will need to seek for medical help right away, or an emergency treatment for their hypertensive crisis. If they cannot get help and make it to the emergency medical services (the EMS) they should ask someone to take them to the hospital.
If you have a normal blood pressure value, that is great, but it does not mean that you should do nothing and stand still. You should still change some bad things that are part of your lifestyle in order to protect your good health and prevent hypertension. Not only for preventing hypertension, these changes can also be beneficial for improving your health in general.
